Primeur Utrecht met vrouwelijke plebaan
(Utrecht) Sunday, 31 October 2010, theologian Annemieke Duurkoop will be installed by Archbishop Joris Vercammen as the first woman rector of St. Gertrudis, the Old Catholic Cathedral in Utrecht. Mw. Dr. Duurkoop was at H. Martinus (St. Martin's) parish in Groningen since 2003. In 1998, the Old Catholic Church of the Netherlands returned to the ancient practice of ordaining both men and women. Elevating women clerics to leadership is becoming increasingly common. The first woman priest in the Netherlands was Mw. Grete Verhey-Hunter who was ordained on 18 September 1999. On 22 May 2010 Mw.Maria Vittoria Longhitano was ordained by Bishop Fritz-René Müller as the first woman priest in Italy.
